Five-Time NBA Champion and Entrepreneur to Deliver Patient Perspective on the Importance of Pharmaceutical Innovation and Speed to Market
Earvin "Magic" Johnson was universally recognized as one the world's best basketball players until he announced his sudden retirement from the National Basketball Association in 1991, when he was diagnosed as HIV positive. An inspiration to all, Magic Johnson has used his celebrity to educate the world on the deadly virus that sidelined his professional basketball career and on the important drugs that have helped him overcome the odds. He has not only been a patient, but a patient advocate, speaking before Congress on the need for HIV programs. Although Mr. Johnson is world-famous for his illustrious, 13-year career with the NBA, he has redefined himself to become one of the most successful entrepreneurs in business today with an objective to revitalize and provide quality entertainment and services to neglected, urban communities. Magic Johnson is currently Chairman and CEO of Johnson Development Corporation (JDC). Among many other accomplishments and honors, he has been named one of the country's most influential businessmen by Fortune magazine.
